Healing From PTSD and Trauma — Through the Power of God
At JesusQuest, we walk with people carrying the invisible weight of trauma — the nightmares, the flashbacks, the always-being-on-guard — and help them find real peace through prayer, deliverance ministry, and the Word of God. Spiritual ministry that works alongside professional care, never in place of it.
Does Any of This Sound Like Your Life Right Now?
- Nightmares, broken sleep, or dreading the night?
- Memories or flashbacks that pull you back to what happened?
- Always on edge — scanning rooms, startling easily, never fully able to relax?
- Feeling numb, distant, or cut off from the people you love?
- Avoiding places, people, or conversations that stir it all up?
Trauma is real — and so is the God who heals. Whether the wound came from combat, abuse, an accident, or a loss, Scripture is full of people God met in the aftermath and restored. He has not changed.
The Day David Lost Everything — and How He Recovered It All
In 1 Samuel 30, David and his men came home to Ziklag and found smoke. The city burned, their families taken, everything gone in a single day. The Bible says they wept “until they had no more power to weep” — and then the men David led began talking about stoning him. Grief, shock, and blame all at once. If anyone understood the moment a life splits into before and after, it was David standing in those ashes.
What happened next is why this story matters for anyone carrying trauma: “David strengthened himself in Yahweh his God” (1 Samuel 30:6). He grieved honestly, he turned toward God instead of away from Him, he asked God for the next step — and God led him until “David recovered all” (v.18-19). Not overnight. Not alone. But fully.
David's Pattern for Healing After Trauma
- Grieve honestly. David and his men wept until they had no strength left. God never asks you to pretend it didn’t hurt — the Psalms are full of raw, honest pain. (v.4)
- Strengthen yourself in the Lord. With everything gone and everyone against him, David turned toward God, not away from Him. That one turn is where healing starts. (v.6)
- Ask God for the next step — not the whole map. David simply asked, “Shall I pursue?” One question, one step. Healing works the same way: one obedient step at a time. (v.8)
- Don’t make the journey alone. Two hundred of David’s men were too exhausted to go on — and they still shared fully in the restoration. God builds recovery around community, not isolation. (v.10, 24)
- Expect recovery. “David recovered all.” The same God says, “I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten.” (Joel 2:25)
“He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3). The Lord is close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18), and He gives “beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning” (Isaiah 61:3). What was done to you does not get the last word over you.
